Visionaries - our exploration of the work of visionary painters from Stanley Spencer to the Chapman Brothers - was a big success. Arranged so that visitors were 'led' through the work from 20th to 21st century, the paintings looked stunning in the church, setting up dialogues between the artists and across a time span of 85 years.
The Private View was packed and it was a great pleasure to welcome artists and lenders together with Anna Adams and Janice Goble, widows of artists Norman Adams and Tony Goble, and also Unity Spencer, Sir Stanley Spencer's daughter. Almost 1,000 people visited the show during the three weeks it was on.
Artist David Shillinglaw painted 'live' outside the church, attracting great interest from passers by.
Our resident 'Hermit', performance artist Kit Paulson (below), built himself a 'cell' in the church and undertook 40 hours of meditation, as well as painting in the church. He also undertook journeys around the City with his trusty stave, and a jacket bearing the legend 'All Hallows Hermit'.
