Salutation
a large-scale installation
for Christmas

Shaeron Caton-Rose

The Christmas period 2009 saw an ambitious installation by Shaeron Caton-Rose created specially for Wallspace. An exploration of the theme of the annunciation, when traditionally the angel appeared to Mary to announce the birth of Jesus, Salutation filled the church with huge muslin veils with the appliquéd gold text 'what manner of salutation this might be'. The artist is concerned with the questions that surround the tension between destiny and design. How much of our lives are we actually able to influence by choice and how much is beyond our control? With Salutation, she created a quiet space for the viewer to reflect on an individual response when life deals the curve ball of circumstance.

"Wonderful feeling walking round the installation - a real sense of being part of the piece."

"It's really good to be surprised by such welcoming spaces. I really liked the mirror ball reflecting the light and calling inside."

"Wish I'd found this space sooner. Welcomely provoked."
