The artists

Kit Paulson

Although painting has always been at the core of Kit's practice, he works in a variety of media, much of his work might be characterised as installation or live art. Previous to studying Fine Art at Middlesex University he has had experience working in the theatre and completed a degree in History at Edinburgh University. Presently, he is in the final stages of a doctoral research project. Kit's work concerns extension and fragility. He is fascinated with the intersection of memory and perception, and the persistent haunting power of illusion. Each group of works is interrelated somehow delineating a new site rather than a utopia; he is interested in constructing an ectopia; a site out of place, a beat out of rhythm. Not escapist and not transcendent, just disordered momentarily. Kit has performed live works with long term collaborator Alex Baker at (among others) the 2003 LMC Experimental Music Festival and the Sonic Arts Network Festival. They have also undertaken a residency at the Daghda Dance Company in Limerick. Most recently we were commissioned to make a large-scale performance/installation work in Rochester, USA.
