Born and educated in North London, Julie Cook was employed as a nurse for more than 20 years. In 1996 she embarked on a degree course in jewellery at Middlesex University. Encouraged to use alternative materials in relation to the body, she discovered that her creative life and nursing background were inextricably linked, each one feeding the other. Since graduating in 2002 she have been exhibiting work both nationally and internationally. In 2005-6 she was awarded the Crafts Council Development Award and Arts Council England's Grant for the arts. Her work is in the Crafts Council Collection.
